Patrick J. Patterson, MSW, MPH
PATRICK J. PATTERSON, MSW, MPH is a committed change agent and champion families with nearly two decades of direct service, public affairs, advocacy and executive management experience in Federal government, Foundation, and For-Profit sectors.
Throughout his distinguished career, Mr. Patterson has successfully led National Responsible Fatherhood and Healthy Marriage Initiatives during both President George W. Bush and President Barack Obama Administrations. An experienced grant writer, Mr. Patterson has successfully led grant-writing efforts that have resulted in state, Foundation, and Federal grant awards resulting in more than $51 Million, including multi-million dollar Federal grant awards received during both the Bush and Obama Administrations.
His career began as an executive at the Sisters of Charity Foundation of South Carolina (SOCF), the 2nd largest foundation in the state with assets (during his tenure) totaling more than $85 Million. While there, Mr. Patterson served as statewide manager for the SOCF Fatherhood Initiative, where he earned a National reputation as a Fatherhood Leader and Expert. During his tenure at the SOCF is also where Mr. Patterson began writing grants, equipped with a deep understanding of how grants are awarded based on his experience managing and funding programs as a foundation executive.
With more than 15 years experience as a grant writer and trainer, Mr. Patterson also gained valuable experience and expertise in how to write winning grant proposals while serving as the Regional Program Specialist within the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (US DHHS), Administration for Children and Families (ACF) in Philadelphia, PA. During his tenure there, Mr. Patterson was responsible for managing and providing training and technical assistance for all of the Federally funded Fatherhood, Healthy Marriage, and Faith Based Initiatives throughout the region which included the following states: Maryland, Virginia, Delaware, Pennsylvania, West Virginia and Washington, DC. While there he was also certified as a Federal grant-writing expert and served as the lead Federal grant writing trainer for the region.
Mr. Patterson has delivered more than 700 trainings, technical assistance consultations, and workshops at conferences and with a wide range of helping agencies and professionals in 42 states, Mexico, Mongolia, Jamaica, and the Bahamas. He is a veteran change agent who is passionate about helping individuals, families, communities, and agencies to grow and achieve what they deem as success.
Mr. Patterson is a naive of Columbia, SC. He earned a Bachelor of Social Work degree from Benedict College (Columbia, SC), and dual Masters degrees in Social Work and Public Health from the University of South Carolina. He is married to his high school sweetheart, Sherani Ashford Patterson, and they have 2 daughters.
